Beside Still Waters by Daugavpils Theatre

“Beside Still Waters”, 2h 15min,  Daugavpils Theatre at Dirty Deal Teatro, Talsu iela 1

The most unusual performance in the programme is the production of Daugavpils Theatre, which is located in a town on the border of Lithuania and Belarus, close to the Russian border. Director Liena Smukste took Regina Ezera’s novel, first published in 1987, at the end of the Soviet Union, as the basis of her work and created a theatrical story of relationships and connections of several women, told in the first person. The format of the performance is immersive theatre, using different spaces, each of which defines the character of the heroines in the play. Liena Smukste works hard to find different forms of theatre, trying to speak to the audience, involving them in the theatre happening.
