Baltic Drama Forum 2023
Baltic Drama Forum is a series of theatre-related events taking place every year in one of the Baltic countries basing on a triennial principle. The aim of the event is to promote the original dramaturgy of the respective country and relevant theatre productions, establish new cultural contacts and cooperation in the Baltic theatre community as well as organize academic conferences in order to open the dialogue between theory and practice. Besides, public discussions, non-formal meetings and networking form integral part of the forum. In Lithuania and Estonia, the Baltic Drama forum conference usually takes place during theatre festivals “Sirenos” and “Draama”, meanwhile in Latvia it is paired with the national theatre showcase of smaller or larger scae, including the productions nominated for Spēlmaņu nakts – Latvian Annual Theatre Award or the best productions of recent years with the translation in English, providing to foreign professionals and critics the opportunity to enjoy Latvian theatre. Baltic Drama Forum is organized by Latvian Theatre Workers’ Union in cooperation with Latvian Academy of Culture and other partners. Traditionally, the forum gathers 10-15 delegates from Lithuania and Estonia and several guests from other countries. In 2023, Latvia revives the tradition of guest performances, enriching the programme with one Lithuanian and one Estonian theatre production.
