Kārlis Krūmiņš

My works seem to be united by a feature – they all touch topics of public importance, but I'm not a trend hunter. I'm connected to theatre first as a director and actor, and I only allow myself to write when I can’t help but write. It's a way, or part of it, how I express my civic position by asking myself and the viewer uncomfortable questions. On several occasions, I have used political figures as characters in my plays, giving them archetypical outlines. The focus of my plays is on a person who faces and confronts greater power. A small man against supreme power. Comically absurd tragedies.
