Focus on original plays and dramaturgy created by local authors at Dirty Deal Teatro

In this, as in every other season, Dirty Deal Teatro will put all of our focus on original plays and dramaturgy created by local authors. Our main intention is to talk about current issues and to reveal what the artists and the society are concerned or interested about in this decade.

In this, as in every other season, Dirty Deal Teatro will put all of our focus on original plays and dramaturgy created by local authors. Our main intention is to talk about current issues and to reveal what the artists and the society are concerned or interested about in this decade. Apart from the adult audience, we’re also planning to make new performances for teenagers and children (starting from preschool).

In majority of our performances the authors, directors and the rest of the creative team get their ideas from difficult experiences in their own life that also come back to wider questions in our society (“Pārcēlāja” (The Charron by Inga Tropa), “Mantojums” (Heritage by MIGLĀJS AJV* (Anna Belkovska, Jānis Balodis, Viesturs Balodis)), Latvian and their family history (“Mammu” (Mom! by Valters Sīlis), as well as questions that the humanity has been concerned with for the last couple of years (“Frankenšteina komplekss” (Frankenstein complex by Kārlis Krūmiņs), Drama Queen by Sofija Melnikova).

We give a stage to work on both for well known directors, playwrights and actors and for those who have just finished their studies to create a more versatile, exciting and up to date repertoire. For the last couple of seasons we have also tried to translate or subtitle more of our performances in English, and we would like to continue this work to open DDT to English speaking expats and people visiting Riga. Besides that we’re also planning to include some guest performances from different regions and countries.
